Actions for gender equality and active citizenship

December 2019 - May 2021
The Promitheas Research Institute undertook the implementation of an 18-month transnational project (12/2019 - 05/2021) as part of the ERASMUS PLUS program under Action 2 – Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices -Capacity Building in the field of Youth.
The project focuses on actions for gender equality and active citizenship, entitled:
Advocacy for Gender Equality and Active Citizenship
The project is transnational, with the Infinite Opportunities Association from Bulgaria as the lead partner and the Prometheus Research Institute from Cyprus, the Mary Seacole Housing Association from the UK, and the youth organization I love Kyrgyzstan from Kyrgyzstan as partners.
The project aims to tackle gender inequality through the education of young people, supporting their participation in understanding the democratic system and providing them with the necessary tools to engage in decision-making and policy-making. The proposal is in line with the agenda for sustainable development (achieving gender equality and empowering women), the Lisbon Treaty (need to encourage young people's participation in democratic life) and gender equality and youth participation in civil society (EU Youth Strategy (2010-2018).
Prometheus, with research experience in gender studies and experience in developing Open Educational Resources, will play a decisive role in the project during the pilot implementation of the developed educational program during the planned mobility action of experts on youth issues. The Institute will host the educational program for young people and will support the presentation of the content with its team of experts.
The project includes a series of actions as follows:
Activity 0: Kick-off meeting in Sofia (January 7-9, 2019) to set up partner management teams and expert teams, allocate tasks, and plan local dissemination events
Activity 1: Adaptation and production of a training program on gender equality and empowerment of young women using Open Educational Resources and their availability in various European languages
Activity 2: Conclusions on gender equality and advocacy skills for young people, educators, and trainers
Activity 3: Youth exchange/camp on gender equality and advocacy skills
Activity 4: Local Action Plan for Gender Equality
The specific objectives to be achieved by the completion of the project:
To raise awareness of gender equality in youth work, research structures, and NGOs in all partner countries
Develop, adapt, and produce a set of educational programs/modules on gender equality and the empowerment of young women using open educational resources in various European languages.
Invest in capacity building and train 20 youth workers and educators to manage and support local gender actions in partner countries
Invest in the potential of young people by encouraging the active participation of 40 young people in democratic life as ambassadors for social inclusion, equality, and diversity.
Implement a locally specific Youth Gender Equality Action Plan in each partner organization and their partners by December 2020.
Ensure the sustainability of cultural exchange that will support gender equality and the needs of young women in partner organizations and communities after the end of the project.
