Advocacy for Gender Equality and Active Citizenship

Actions for gender equality and active citizen participation

December 2019 – May 2021

The Promitheas Research Institute undertook the implementation of an 18-month transnational project (12/2019 - 05/2021) within the framework of the ERASMUS PLUS program under Action 2 – Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices -Capacity Building in the field of Youth.

The project is about actions for gender equality and active citizenship with the title:

Advocacy for Gender Equality and Active Citizenship

The project is transnational with the sponsoring body being the Infinite Opportunities Association from Bulgaria and partners being the Prometheus Research Institute from Cyprus, the Mary Seacole Housing Association from Great Britain and the youth organization I love Kyrgyzstan from Kyrgyzstan.

The project aims to address gender inequality through the education of young people, supporting young people's participation in understanding the democratic system, and providing them with the necessary tools for engagement in decision-making and policy-making. The proposal is in line with the Sustainable Development Agenda (achieving gender equality and empowering women), the Lisbon Treaty (need to encourage young people's participation in democratic life) and gender equality and youth participation in civil society (EU Youth Strategy (2010-2018).

Promitheas, with research experience in gender studies and experience in the development of Open Educational Tools, will have a key role in the project at the pilot stage of the developed training programme during the planned mobility action of experts in youth issues. The Institute will host the training programme for young people and support the presentation of the content with its team of experts.

The project includes a series of actions as follows:

Activity 0: Launch of meetings in Sofia (7-9 January 2019) to set up partner management teams and expert groups and division of labour and planning local dissemination events

Activity 1: Adaptation and production of a training programme on gender equality and empowerment of young women using Open Educational Resources and their availability in different European languages

Activity 2: Conclusions on gender equality and advocacy skills of young people, teachers and trainers

Activity 3: Youth exchange/camp on gender equality and advocacy skills

Activity 4: Local Gender Equality Action Plan

Specific objectives to be achieved upon completion of the project:

To increase awareness of gender equality in work on youth, research structures and NGOs in all partner countries

To develop, adapt and produce a set of training programmes/chapters on gender equality and the empowerment of young women using open educational resources in different European languages.

To invest in capacity building and train 20 youth workers and educators to manage and support local gender actions in partner countries

To invest in the potential of young people, encouraging the active participation of 40 young people in democratic life as ambassadors for social inclusion, equality and diversity.

To implement a locally specific Youth Gender Equality Action Plan in each partner organisation and their partners by December 2020.

To ensure the sustainability of the cultural exchange that will support gender equality and the needs of young women in partner organizations and communities after the end of the project.
